Kamakura's Buddha statue was worth the day trip from Tokyo. It wasn't as big as I thought, like other statues in the world, but you just have to see it for once!
An ancient Japanese capital, the peaceful town of Kamakura is especially beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn. You could spend all day touring the temples and shrines, including seeing the giant bronze Buddha. But there's also a lot to do outdoors here, from hiking trails to beaches that are swimmable in summer.
A small city of temples a short train ride south of Tokyo, Kamakura is most famous for its 'Great Buddha'. While the numerous temples here (the individual admission fees add up fast!) are not particularly impressive in light of those in, say, Kyoto, it's still well worth a day trip if you've had your fill of urban sprawl in Tokyo. The city's beaches are also surprisingly nice in-season.
The great buddha of kamakura, is the second bronze statue. Whenever you come his expressive face will touch your heart.
