The details

The hotel is clean and the room deluxe king is cute. Stairs are steep, not suitable for elderly.
Bathroom: The walk in shower is a nice with a raining shower head straight above. We did only receive 2 towels; pretty darn thin. Not a big deal though just asked for extras. Dual sinks which is great for couples!! A smart mirror that has a dim light and a warmer to keep the mirror from foggy up during a shower. The TOLIET PAPER, COTTONELLE! I love this because I really can’t stand that thin see through TP some place provide.
Room: king size bed was comfy and the pillow were fluffed and full. Gap under the door in and out of the room was rather large allowing a lot of hallway light in, but a quick fix with a towel made the room much darker. The mini fridge works amazingly. The freezer actually froze my items! I enjoyed the fact that the window opens up fully. No stupid little stopper.
Breakfast: INCLUDED Sunday hours 7-9 which sort of sucked for the early riser wanting to get the day started. Scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns and biscuits! Um okay. The gravy was watery. They also had 2 types of cereal, toast and a few pastry treats.
Overall stratified with the stay. I was just an overnight stay. Would choose again just because it was simple and affordable.

I went a second time to avoid loud noises and sleep interruptions. Needles to say I was woken through out the night. Just like previous visits. Staff was very nice and motel was clean. Except the noises from rooms next door or close by. You hear loud and clear. Hopefully I’ll find a motel without sleep interruptions.

Terrible staff and management- AVOID

Had a terrible experience with the staff. On checkout day, i was about to start checkout at 11 AM when the housekeeper and front desk person started calling me repeatedly on the phone and banging loudly on the door like cops going after criminals at 11:06. I told them to give me a few minutes. 10 minutes later, the loud banging and the phone calls started again. I was in the restroom and had to open the door without flushing or washing my hands. This was very traumatic for me. Guest Services refused to acknowledge or apologize to me when I complained.

Acceptable lodging on the north side of Lompoc

Giving a 2023 update on this one. I stayed recently over a holiday weekend, so prices were sky high. This place is on the higher end of the independent budget class of motels in Lompoc. Pretty generic but cleaner, both in and out, than competing motels in its class.
If you're visiting from far away and have been sold a story about this being "wine country" please take this advice from a local: Lompoc is a VERY poor, hard-scrabble town with most of the inhabitants working in ag. (berry and vegetable truck farming), at the Federal prison, or low-level jobs at Vandenberg SFB. Some parts of town are VERY dangerous and you don't want to walk around alone at night. One good thing about this location is that it's far enough north on H street so that you get less of the gang-banger threat.
So yes, you can use Lompoc as a more affordable base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding areas, but just please be realistic about the town itself.
The Inn at Highway 1 motel is acceptable for adventurous budget travelers who are single or couples - but I would never have a family or an older couple lodge here. It could work well for a budget business traveler as well. Paying more than $140 or $150 for a night here is unacceptable. If you can get a reservation for less than $110 / night, fine. But I'd be hesitant to pay more than that unless you've exhausted all other options.
