Friendly Staff and very helpful
I stayed at this hotel and had 2 heavy pieces of luggage. The staff that was in the Hallway said hey let me carry that up for you. including housekeepers. Jesus was one name and the ladies at the counter for check in. Lina was one name and there was a lady with a Flower in her hair and another woman with short hair. Nice as could be. Excellent Breakfast. Thick Bacon and Home Fries. Sarah was another one who worked in the Bar where I wrote this review and she was very kind.
I would stay at coastal. They do not have an elevator but I think your luggage will make it faster up the stairs than an elevator.

Bad customer service/Expectations not met
We arrived in anchorage from Australia and via an Alaskan Cruise. We were warned there would be no-one on the premises to greet us, which we understood. What we couldn't understand was the lack of any information at all about Anchorage (where was a good place to eat/where was the CBD etc.). The coffee machine did work, albeit we only drink tea and we were cold but could not figure out the heating (no instructions were supplied) similarly there were no instructions for the TV and, lastly, the shower was broken. Despite all attempts at ringing and emailing, the owners were impossible to contact both that evening and the following morning. Despite advertising themselves as a Bed & Breakfast, there was no breakfast and as for having a Business Centre - where was it? And we never did work out how to get access to the deck. We left after one night instead of three. After considerable pressure they made an offer to refund one night's payment - very unsatisfactory since we only had 3 nights in Anchorage and had to spend so much time looking for alternative accommodation.

Heaven in Alaska
I tread carefully in saying this as not to brag; I am an experienced traveller. Life has brought me all over the world and to a wide assortment of various levels of accommodations. I can honestly say, looking back and comparing my experiences, that my stay at The Coastal Place has been, by far, the most pleasant and relaxing week I have ever had.
Simple and elegant, rustic and refined, these rooms have a perfectly balanced solution of modern and natural. I had the top floor of this enchanting boutique hotel for my enjoyment. It had a lounge area (which was all mine) with a mini fridge, ultra comfortable seating, a closet and clothing rack, and a beautiful view of the mountains and the ocean. In the bedroom, separated by a door that locked from the inside, they provide a keurig machine (that I had never realized was so essential) for the guest's use, along with an electric fireplace next to one of the most luxurious couches this tired body has ever had the pleasure of resting on. It had a bed-or rather a cloud with blankets, and my own bathroom complete with the highest quality towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. (I didn't need to bring a single toiletry!).
Whether I was lounging around and reading a book by firelight- sipping, on gourmet coffee, and enjoying a treat from the complimentary snack bar, or laying in bed, watching the sleek, adjustable, wall-mounted, LCD TV late into the night, or watching the golden sunrise pour over the majestic Alaskan scenery from the bedroom window early in the morning, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace that is not easily recreated.
I have faith that anyone who reads this and stays at The Coastal Place will agree with this review and will have a similar and individual experience. If you're looking to get away from your troubles and step into paradise for a time, try them; I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Not our first choice, but next time it will be!
We (i) waited to make reservations for 2 nights in Anchorage in July until the day of arrival. My first choice was not Coastal Place, but the B&B we contacted was full, and they recommended Coastal Place. Next time our first choice is Coastal Place. We felt so much at home. Clean, comfortable, convenient, classy & cozy! We were given the upstairs room which had an extra bed set up for our 10 year old that she just loved in her own little area. In room coffee, snacks in the foyer, DVDs, books, TV, and walking distance to downtown. We never met the owners, but did talk over the phone upon departure, and the whole stay was like visiting family (in a good way). Next time we return to Alaska, my first choice for lodging in Anchorage will be Coastal Place, and we (I) will reserve as soon as we know our dates.

An ACCURATE description of Coastal Place Boutique Hotel
I stayed here from July 18-21 2012. Below are my comments, and what I call, an accurate description of this Boutique Hotel.
I was in Anchorage, Alaska from July 18-22 to attend a special training workshop. Since I am finishing my Master's Degree, and my student loans / debt load is high, it was imperative that I found a reasonably priced place as I am still on a student budget. When I initially called to inquire about availability, and if the managers could help me out, they absolutely did because of my situation, so I booked!
I took the bus from the airport (only $1.75) and was dropped off at Anchorage's "Downtown" transit center. From there, it was a pleasant 7 minute walk to Coastal Place. Coastal Place is located just a couple streets up from the waterfront, and the ocean view is just gorgeous. The "hotel" is a smaller sized red house, and was very easy to find. A note was taped to the door for me with my name on it, letting me know which room I would be staying in, welcoming me to the hotel, and informing me of the owner's phone number should I need anything. I entered in the special code I was given into their "push button" keyless entry, and went inside. When you walk inside, you find yourself in a foyer, and alone (no one is there to greet you - this is self check in). All 3 rooms are just a few steps away, with each room being one right next to the other. All rooms are clearly marked with a sign on each door (Arctic Room, Sustina Suite, and Denali Den). In the foyer, there is a desk with a MAC computer and printer, with internet access that guests may use free of charge. Great! There is a microwave, and a bar fridge. The bar fridge is loaded with all sorts of wonderful beverages for guests (juice, V8, you name it!) and above the microwave are 5 separate Tupperware containers, each filled with granola and fruit bars. Just below the microwave are packages of microwavable popcorn. The drinks, popcorn and granola bars are complimentary for guests! This was just a wonderful treat! On the wall in the foyer, they have 5 or 6 different wine bottles with a note basically saying to help yourself to a bottle, but just replace it with another bottle of wine before you leave. There is a wine opener right there too.
My room had the same push button keyless entry as the front door (all rooms have this special lock on it). I was in the Arctic Room. When I entered, I essentially found myself in a bedroom, with an en suite bathroom in it. Wonderful! The room was a standard size bedroom, and the en suite bathroom was a nice size to move around in. From the moment I walked in, I could see and smell that the room had been cleaned immaculately! I am a stickler for clean, and believe me, my room and bathroom had been cleaned so well, I couldn't find a piece of dust or hair or dirt anywhere....and believe me, I looked! The room and bathroom were immaculate!
There were two windows in the bedroom, one in the bathroom. The two windows in the bedroom had blinds, but not the one in the bathroom (the one in the bathroom didn't need it because it was a completely frosted window - can't see out or in). The house is older, perhaps from the 50s? So, there are original hardwood floors in the bedroom, and updated tile in the bathroom. Standup shower, and newer shower and sink hardware in the bathroom. The casings on the windows and floor boards seem original too. You have a sliding door to the closet, and drawers are build right into the wall in the bedroom as your dresser (which I found to be neat!). There is also a Keurig single cup coffee maker in your room, complete with an assortment of 3 different types of coffee, as well as sugar, creamer and stir sticks. You also have a bar fridge, flat screen TV attached to the wall, and a smaller size fire place attached to the wall as well. The bed was queen size I believe, and very comfortable. There are also two night tables (one on each side of the bed) and a small mirrored vanity in the bathroom. What I absolutely LOVED in that you are provided with shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom. It's luxury Costco brand - econo-size. I tried it with my long, fussy hair, and LOVED IT. I'm buying some for myself! Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, coffee, wine, granola bars, juice - you don't find these luxuries in many places, if at all! And I have traveled quite a bit in my life.
I had the pleasure of meeting Micah & Daniel (the owners) because I had a little trouble figuring out the TV. They are a young, professional handsome couple (in their early to mid 30s) and were very polite, welcoming and helpful.
Someone (Micah?) came into my room every day to make my bed, take out the garbage and tidy up.
There is a collection of DvDs and books on a shelf right outside the rooms. The TV has 100+ channels, and a DVD player build right into the side of it. I watched DVDs every night.
Downtown Anchorage is just a few minutes walk away. You are very close to a walking trail, viewing the ocean front, and lots of yummy breakfast cafes, restaurants and shops. The nearest grocery store is about a 15 minute walk away.
I wasn't bothered by anyone, and my stay was quiet and very comfortable. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed staying here, and can't wait to come back with my husband next time.
