Budget Rate Hotel with no extra charge in Serdika

This is a good location hostel in Sofia.I took a single room for me with full facilities,attached to personal bathroom ,tv.You dont need to pay extra for towel etc like some other budget hotel room.And its clean.The staff were able to conversed in English and they provide simple breakfast: croissant and coffee.

Character over Sterility!

For me, the budget Shans-2 Ho(s)tel turned out to have more character, more vitality and better service than any other place I've ever stayed at.
Despite being in what some might regard as a 'dodgy neighbourhood', the Shans-2 was quiet, safe, clean and welcoming.
Just a block off Maria Luisa Boulevard, the Shans-2 is within easy walking distance of just about anything a visitor could want: tourist attractions, restaurants, cafes, shops, markets, pharmacies, and the Serdica Metro station.
Given the Shans-2's proximity to a main thoroughfare, one might reasonably expect a high level of noise, but not so. This colourful place was, in fact, extremely quiet.
The reception desk operates 24/7 and is very efficiently run by Mira, Ludmil, and Eva. The overall level of English is not high, but that made no difference. The staff were extremely friendly, with a great sense of humour, and more than willing to help with anything they could.
As for the housekeeping, well, it doesn't get much better than with Elena. She provided the best housekeeping services of any place I've ever stayed at!
I guess what struck me the most about this place was its 'vitality' and 'character', so different from the sterility of many other places. I'm still smiling as I write this review!

Good location, low quality

I've stayed at this hostel/guesthouse in november 2017. For citytrippers with a low budget it might be a appropriate place to sleep and shower, but nothing more than that. Because of the cheap price I'm not disappointed about my stay in this place. However, as expected, the quality of this hostel was poor. For example, the staircase is impoverished and the 'bathroom' is not much more than a covered box in the middle of the bedroom. Afterall this place is proper for a short-stay to discover Sofia, especially for people with a low budget like students, citytrippers and roadtrippers.

family vacation

We were given a free upgrade. We had this flatlet on 3rd floor. It is very clean and very well kept. The only drawback is that it is not supplied by a lift, so one has to go up 63 steps. But we took it as fun, as a bit of keep fit!! Fully Airconditioned .

Could do much much better. Nice staff but NOT really a HOSTEL. Its more like a guesthouse with cheap superbasic rooms. Dont expect too much although not as bad as other dodgy places in the same area...
