The last place where the Titanic sailed from, the lads in Belfast where she was built always claimed that the Titanic was fine when it left there! Cobh is a true delight with panoramic views of Cork Harbour. The Cathedral is a must see, as it dominates the landscape so much and a boat trip around the harbour can also be recommended.

Cobh (pronounced "Cove," as I sheepishly learned from my hostel owner) is a port town in Cork, previously called Queenstown. We would have skipped right past this charming little seaside town if not for my desire to visit the place my great-great grandfather boarded the Titanic...which is, indeed, the last place the ship stopped before beginning her fateful journey across the Atlantic. Aside from the very emotional and personal experience I had there, the town is truly a charming little place to stop for a bite (fish and chips, of course) and a drink (in an authentic pub, of course.)

I love Cobh! Beautiful harbour town in County Cork that was originally called Cove (The Cove of Cork). After a visit from Queen Victoria in 1850 it was renamed Queenstown until 1920 when, after the the foundation of the Irish Free State, it was renamed Cove but in the Irish spelling Cobh. As Queenstown Cobh was the last place the Titanic sailed from on her fateful voyage in April 1912 and the White Star Line's offices in Cobh are now a museum to the Titanic. Part of the original pier where Irish migrants boarded boats to carry them out to the Titanic, which was moored at the mouth of the harbour, still stands.
