Torun is the postcard perfect city of Poland. Red roof buildings are punctuated by green copper-topped church spires and narrow cobblestone alleyways amble through the town. Known as "Krakow of the North," Torun is an important tourism hub and boast three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within it's borders. It's location on the Vistula River has made it an important trade asset for centuries.
The town centre has some of the most amazing Gothic architecture. The place is absolutely steeped in history, it was the birth place of Nicolaus Copernicus (a famous astronomer), it has the castle of the Teutonic Knights, there is this mental tower that's leant right over (I have no idea why) not to mention it is home to some amazing gingerbread and there is a place in the town centre that serves exquisite sweet & savoury pancakes. There's lovely bar boats that offer a place to sit, chill out and enjoy the scenic views of the Vistula/Wisła river and the bridges that connect the opposing banks. This place is a definate must visit.
Torun is a delightful UNESCO heritage listed fresh water (Hanseatic League) port on the Vistula River, birthplace of the multidicisplinary genius and astronomer, Nicolas Copernicus, and delightful university city, burgeoning with great atmosphere, good food, splendid boutique museums and a rich history that reflects all that is best in Poland!
